Modern Legacy

Remakes, spiritual successors, and the games that carry the Psygnosis spirit into the present day.

Official Remakes & Collections

Shadow of the Beast (PS4, 2016)

2016 PS4 HexaDrive / Sony Interactive Entertainment

A modern remake of the 1989 Amiga original, developed by HexaDrive and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The remake preserved the core mythology and aesthetic of the original while bringing contemporary production values to the experience. Roger Dean's visual language informed the remake's art direction, maintaining the organic fantasy atmosphere of the Psygnosis original.

The remake was a PlayStation 4 exclusive and received mixed to positive reviews. It was widely regarded as a respectful tribute to the original rather than a definitive modernisation. Available on PlayStation Store; see also the Flagship Titles editorial on the original.

Wipeout Omega Collection (PS4, 2017)

2017 PS4 Clever Beans / Sony Interactive Entertainment

Developed by Clever Beans and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the Wipeout Omega Collection brings together Wipeout HD (2008), Wipeout HD Fury (2009), and Wipeout 2048 (2012) — the final three games produced by SCE Studio Liverpool before its closure. Runs at 4K/60fps on PS4 Pro; supports PlayStation VR.

The Omega Collection is the definitive way to experience the late Studio Liverpool Wipeout catalogue on modern hardware. It includes the full music roster of those three games and supports online multiplayer. Available on PlayStation Store. See Play for access details.

Spiritual Successors — Anti-Gravity Racing

BallisticNG

2016–present PC Neognosis / Electrocosmos

BallisticNG is a free, open-source anti-gravity racing game explicitly designed as a spiritual successor to the original Wipeout trilogy. Available free on Game Jolt and on Steam. The game uses a deliberately low-polygon aesthetic reminiscent of the original PS1 Wipeout while adding modern gameplay features.

For fans of the original Wipeout who want more of that experience, BallisticNG is the most direct and faithful successor available. It captures the feel of the 1995 original with impressive accuracy.

Redout 1 & 2

2016 / 2022 PC / Console 34BigThings

Italian studio 34BigThings' Redout series takes the anti-gravity racing concept in a more modern direction, with high-fidelity visuals and a demanding physics system. Redout 2 (2022) is the more polished of the two and is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

While less directly Wipeout-derived than BallisticNG, Redout captures the sense of high-speed risk that the original Psygnosis series defined.

Pacer / Formula Fusion

2020 PC R8 Games

Pacer (originally Formula Fusion) was developed by R8 Games, a studio founded by former Wipeout developers — including members of the original Studio Liverpool team. This makes Pacer the most authentic spiritual successor to Wipeout in terms of actual development lineage. Available on PC via Steam and on PlayStation 4.

Lemmings Successors & Clones

Flockers

2014 PC Team17

Team17's puzzle platformer Flockers is the most prominent Lemmings clone of the modern era. Substituting sheep for lemmings and borrowing the core mechanic of assigning skills to guide creatures to safety, it was a clear homage to the original DMA Design / Psygnosis classic. Available on Steam.
